BREAKING NEWS: PM Urges MoH to Review Travel Ban on 10 South African Countries

Sihanoukville: Prime Minister Hun Sen has instructed the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy to consider reviewing travel measures from 10 countries in Africa. Cambodian has banned travelers from numerous African countries. This was in response to the recent spread of the latest Covid-19 virus, "Omicron".

Speaking at the inauguration of road infrastructure, wastewater treatment plants and achievements in Sihanoukville on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen has agreed with the policy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, who took the decision of other countries to close flights from certain countries in Africa. He stressed that the world should not leave Africa isolated, and ordered the health minister to discuss with the economy minister how it would be possible to open borders with those African countries.

The Prime Minister has suggested that the ban on the 10 countries should be reconsidered implementing required testing measures. He says he is encouraging the Ministry of Health to use PCR tests for the international arrivals.

 The World Health Organization on 26 November identified a new strain of the Covid-19 virus and named it Omicron. The discovery of the new variant of the coronavirus has caused a change in policy towards the virus for many countries.
